Come help hand-release 2000 native lake sturgeon into the French Broad River! There will be educational exhibits, a hay bale maze, and an opportunity to get up close and personal with these prehistoric creatures. Free food, including Cruze Farm ice cream, will be provided.
Sturgeon are native to the East Tennessee waterways and weigh upwards of 310 lbs, grow to be 9 feet long and live for up to 150 years.
These prehistoric fish began dwindling in number as dams were built and overfishing and pollution became more common.
For the past few years, great efforts to re-introduce the sturgeon back into the waterways of Tennessee to increase the population have been underway.
Sturgeonfest is a great way to help introduce the native species back into their habitat first hand!
