The Tennessee Board of Water Quality, Oil & Gas has oversight of the state’s water quality rules and regulations. In accordance with the Water Quality Control Act, the Board has several responsibilities, including:
- establishing water quality standards,
- promulgating, modifying, and repealing rules relating to water quality,
- hearing and deciding appeals and contested cases under the Water Pollution Control Division’s purview if appealed after being heard by an administrative law judge, and
- making a variety of decisions regarding the application of the state’s water quality rules.
